The May 2026 election is our chance to bring Wandsworth Council back under Conservative control and start rebuilding our public services and reducing Labour’s profligate spend.
In Wandsworth, since 2022 we have had an inexperienced Labour group running the Council who have been undoing all the good work of the previous Conservative administration.
The Conservatives had a great history of success in Wandsworth – a Council delivering outstanding services for the community with high efficiency and at low cost. Wandsworth Council was a flagship for councils around the country and for the effectiveness of the principles, policies and management skills of the Conservatives.
But since May 2022 that has all changed. In Wandsworth, the Labour Councillors have:
Committed to spending £1m of taxpayers’ money on upgrading the Council Leader’s office
Borrowed over £1bn to saddle the Council with its first debt in decades, costing taxpayers more, particular those who are the poorest in our community
Failed on food waste and rubbish collections with a 500% increase in missed collections in just 12 months
Increased council tenant rents and leaseholder charges by the maximum amount each year
Planned to put our parks and commons at risk with the hosting of out of scale events which could impact on local wildlife and the environment
Topped it all off by giving themselves excessive councillor allowance increases
Since May last year, we have been ramping up our campaign to Win back Wandsworth Council and have delivered almost two hundred thousand leaflets since January this year in support of local residents and local issues. We are continuing to build momentum in the campaign with a large and growing number of activists turning out to support our excellent Council candidates as we approach May next year.
We have every chance to Win back Wandsworth, particularly after our emphatic victory in the by-election in West Putney in May 2024, which showed us that it is more than achievable. Hard work and regular communication with the electorate are required, at the time of elections and also between. And not least, money to support the campaign which we raise from our events and from donations.
